About Us
We connect young musicians here with vulnerable children in Brazil — using music to build character on one side and create opportunity on the other.

Help keep a child in school, put food on the table, and place an instrument in their hands.

Learn your instrument. Practice. Make mistakes. Try again. Become resilient. Become confident. Discover what you are capable of.
Keep a child in school. Put food on the table. Put an instrument in their hands.
Give them a reason to believe in tomorrow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Make a one-year commitment to help keep one child in school, fed, and learning music. And let our children follow that child’s story.

Our music project begins with a very simple idea: This is our children’s band — The Great Shape Band. And as musicians, they have a mission that goes far beyond learning how to play well: to use music to help children overcome poverty, violence, and illiteracy.
Our project in Brazil follows the same principle: This is our social project too.
When we connect these two things — music here and mission there — real change begins to happen. And today, we already have real stories of children whose lives are being transformed.
As parents, we have an enormous responsibility: to prepare our children to face a world that will not always be easy.
We want them to be strong. Resilient. Courageous. They need to become monsters. First, a monster on their instrument: to study, practice, fail, try again, and discover what they are capable of becoming.
But there is a second step that matters even more: Use what they have achieved as musicians to make a difference in someone else’s life. We don’t simply want to develop good musicians. We want to develop great human beings. Great Musicians
Before asking our children to make a difference in the world, we need to show them what that looks like. Today, it costs $100 per month to keep one child in our program in Brazil:
$60 — School tuition
$20 — Food/basic groceries
$20 — Music program
We want 12 children being sponsored every Year. Some people fully sponsor one child. Others sponsor two. In some cases, two or more families come together to support one child.
That is why there is no contribution too small. You tell us what your family can contribute.
If you can commit to the full $100 per month, perfect. If not, we can find another family to walk alongside yours.
Every Saturday, we open the doors of our music club to teenagers who want to become part of The Great Shape Band and prepare for our annual benefit concert, Songs in the Key of Life.
It’s free to join. But it will cost you everything you’ve got.
Your time.
Your practice.
Your passion.
Your discipline.
Your willingness to fail, get better, and show up again next Saturday.
We ask something of the parents, too.
While your child is learning music here, your family helps another child stay in school at Escola Pequena Luz in Brazil.
Your donation helps provide education, food, and music to a child growing up in a vulnerable community.
So everyone has a part to play.
The musician gives their commitment.
The family gives an opportunity.
And another child gets a chance.
Then, once a year, we bring it all together on one stage.
Songs in the Key of Life isn’t just our annual concert. It’s the moment our young musicians get to use everything they’ve learned for someone else.
That’s the big idea:
Learn something.
Become good at it.
Then use it to change somebody else’s life.
Music Here. Mission There.
Love. Grace. Music.
Songs in the Key of Life não é apenas o nosso concerto anual.
Amor. Graça. Música.
